The Truth about Cheating: Why Men stray and what you can do to prevent it?

Burt Bacharach once wrote:

“Hey, little girl,
Comb your hair, fix your make-up.
Soon he will open the door.
Don’t think because
There’s a ring on your finger,
you needn’t try any more”

Apparently these seemly outdated lyrics are not so outdated anymore. A new book written by Gary Newman a family councillor entitled The Truth about Cheating: Why Men Stray and What You Can Do to Prevent It’ has caused much controversy amongst the female feminist community with Newman placing the blame for men infidelity on the female!

I feel that the only appropriate reaction at this point is to raise my hand to my forehead cry “alas” and swoon as curly moustached man swathed in a cape ties me to a train track! Can this man be for real? Is he honestly advocating the notion that in this day and age men can not be held responsible for there actions?

Before we judge I’ll give Newman the benefit of the doubt…within the book he tells us lady folk that if we change our behaviour we can prevent our men having affairs and other degrees of infidelity (you know like kissing some chick in a bar but not actually sleeping with her – now that takes will power?!).

Some of the advice Newman gives us is as follows (you might want to write this down)

  • Always forgive him
  • Give him sex on demand
  • Lavish praise on him for providing for the family (eleven if your earning more than him)
  • Rarely if ever let him out on his own with his friends and work colleagues
  • Take an interest in his hobbies

I perhaps should have warned you at the beginning not to eat while you read this because otherwise I bet you’re choking right now! I get the whole taking an interest in hobbies that’s just basic getting to know each stuff and the forgiving him? Well if someone does something wrong and you can’t forgive them then a relationship is never going to work… But the rest of it? How about Newman just write sacrifice your self-esteem, happiness and any sense of worth and you will keep your man… that is until he becomes bored of you being so bloody perfect!

Apparently Newman surveyed 25,500 faithful and unfaithful men to get these results, however, according to synopsises of the book on various websites he “studied close to 100 men from 48 states who have physically cheated on their wives”. So, we are expected to take the opinion of 100 out of 25,500 men? Oh and just to really push home how accurate these facts are only 90%, yes folks that’s a whole 90 people out of 25,500, who felt that their cheating was linked to some “significant dissatisfaction” from within their marriage!

Well, what can I say? This man is an IDIOT he actually needs to be locked up because his opinion is outdated, obnoxious and offensive! He wants a woman to take the blame for the choice of an immature mans to follow the advice of his penis!

My advice buy the book and if your man cheats on you throw it at him and hope it causes him as much pain as he’s inflicting on you!!

  • This advice is really going to help, thanks.
  • @zman If you start your post with a reference to Men Are From Mars I've already discounted everything that follows.

Note: You've called Coffield-Brown an idiot, but I count several basic grammar mistakes in your post. Glass houses. Stones. You know the rest. http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2003/7/7/the-...

I think that you have completely misred the entire book. Have you ever heard of the game or the book men are from mars, women are from venus. The idea of this book is to help women understand the mind of a man and how different it works. I have never cheated on my wife, nor would I ever, and I read the book. What he is explaining to you is how the mans mind works, good or bad. Keeping in mind that through the book, he is also saying that all men lie. Maybe you should read the book again with an open mind and actually read what he's saying before you pass your IDIOT ideas of what he is trying to teach you.

OK, first of all when I first read this I misread it as Gary Numan, if he wrote this book that would have been amazing. Secondly, of course it's a load of rubbish and a despicable thing to do (to publish a book like that) but they make their money from the media furor, he'll be presenting a documentary on ITV before you know it. Mr Newman you git, your career is set.
