Now I know it has been a long time my petit-filles but I have been exceptionally busy however, don’t worry I promise I shall pour my general thoughts and rambles upon your head in as humungous amounts as possible.
Now my story today is exploring a field that I’m not particularly familiar with (or even good at) and that is the world of computer games!!… Actually scratch that, there is one game I’m really good at!! Advanced Sudoku on Brain Training though how much that counts I’m not sure?
Anyway, the reason for this trip into unknown territories is that on Saturday whilst providing reception cover in a Jaguar dealership (that’s cars not the cats, seriously big shock otherwise) I was perusing through The Independent and I came across the 50 best video games….And….it really caused me emotional pain and anguish!!
The top 50 held some valid observations but appeared to be more like someone trying to mix in obvious and fabulous games (No question) with those that would be more likely to fall under the radar and are only being put in to make the piece seem more intellectual and worldly….You know in the same way people throw random foreign films (that they blantantly didn’t enjoy) into a conversation on film to make themselves look really smart and better than us mere mortals who do enjoy a good chick flick and don’t expect the visual equivalent of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics.
It really bugs me the need to be overly pretentious (believe it or not) because it takes away the fun and enjoyment factor from games and suggests that there should be a level of acceptability amongst them. For fluffy, pink, pussy cats sake!! People should be aloud to just do what personally makes them happy!! I mean I adore Tomb raider on the wii but can I play it? Hell no! I can’t even complete the practice level (seriously I have no coordination when it comes to flailing around with that remote) but it doesn’t stop me enjoying it because I have no pressure…. That is until I’m now being told the type of games I should be (attempting in my case) play!
Perhaps people will think I’m misinterpreting the article but surely when it comes to things for play there can be no such thing as BEST because best is based on personal choice!
Oh, incidentally tomb raider probably one of the most famous games did not make the list…

2. Braid(?? seriously what the fu…is this??)
Incredibly inventive platform game available on x-box live arcade. Probably the most original game so far this century. Excellent.
3. Halo 3
Word.
6. Burnout paradise (not about marijuana…my mistake)
Shit. Takedown was better. EA ruined it.
8. Gears of War
Too short.
13. Bioshock
Close to perfect.
15. Guitar hero III legends of Rock
Horrendous tracklisting. Death rattle of a franchise abandoned by it’s creators.
21. Forza Motorsport 2
Trainspotting without sandwiches. Lame.
32. Command and Conquer 3: Tiberian wars
Worst game in the franchise.
43. Soul Calibur IV
Not as good as III. Yoda is broken.
47. Puzzle Quest
Should be higher. Most addictive game ever.
48. Resident Evil 4 Wii edition
PS2 version was amazing.
http://braid-game.com/
Magnificent. The plot, such as it is, is both thought-provoking and utterly heartbreaking in equal measure.
Wii version of Resident Evil was a perfect game!
No lost winds?
where was smash bros?
Metroid?
Bejewelled?
I love these countdowns, we could argue all day.
Superman 64 any one?
Puzzle Quest is to Bejewelled what crack is to cocaine. It’s the same sort of thing, but one is a LOT better, and very, very addictive.
