3D or not 3D that is the question

‘Shall I go 3D?’ isn’t really a question, not after the Sony appearance at CES this week. The question is more like ‘how can I scrape the pennies together to go 3D so the cool kids don’t make fun of me?’

Sony have insisted that all should be done in 3D now, TV watching, game playing, picture taking, video making = 3D, 3D, 3D, 3D, 3D. But I can’t help but feel that this is less for the consumers benefit and more for making sales. Yes I know that is how the consumerism works, companies make new shiny things, we all gush then run out and buy it. However there is an air vulgarity to the Sony approach. For comparison when Apple update their complete line (rumour has it that they still secretly update the Newton,) a subtle change here, an added function there and it genuinely improves my time management, photography skills or what ever else they have taken their magic touch too. Sony make it sound like that if I don’t buy one of their new wonder TV’s, I will suffer and I will die.

It’s not that I am not converted to the multi dimensional cause, Magic Eyes still give me a kick, Avatar was very pretty, the Nintendo 3DS has me beaming with excitement. I just don’t like new tech shoved down my throat, especially when it won’t add anything to my day. So please Sony, we get the (3D) picture, can you stop going on about it, you’re starting to look a bit desperate.
