Hurts: An Awesome Band You Should Listen To

I love my pop tunes. A good pop tune has the ability to make you put your hands in the air like you just don’t care, equally a good pop tune can make you crawl into dark corner and cry like you have lost a puppy.

It is for both these reasons I have fallen in love with Hurts and their new album Happiness.  Now I am not too sure how much I can talk about the album due to the rules of embargo. But I think its safe to say that it is a rather dark romp exploring all the different types of heartache a man can go through using elctronicness and a lot of bass. It is absolutely fantastic and the first album this year I am happy to have on repeat over and over again.

Another thing I find fantastic about this band/group/duo is their unashamed love of all things pop. The inspiration from The Pet Shop Boys and the Lady Gagaesque dance routine are the most obvious. But when you delve a little deeper and look at who inspires them you find a long love affair with the British pop industry. Tone of Take That pop up in more than one song, which is a bit of an odd concept for me.

I am old enough to remember when Take That were popular the first time. At the time I was young enough to get swept up in the glory of them but  I was very aware that others viewed them as crass and cheesy. So for a modern band making such good tunes citing Take That as an influence is oddly refreshing and shows that beneath there serious (and rather sexy) venear there is a bundle of fun to be had.

I forgot to mention Kylie duets on one track, the review copy of the album I have heard features a Kylieless version of the song, I’m sure that the presence of Kylie will add 100% greatness to a track that is already pretty decent. (pr people please send me the Kylie version.)

In conclusion, you should love Hurts, if your not convinced at this moment in time then you must go and learn to love Hurts.
