Transsexual Lauren Harries ruins This Morning

Lauren Harries, AKA James Harries- the creepy curly mopped child from 80’s antiques roadshow- was on This Morning yesterday to talk about her transition from male to female. And successfully ruined the potential for a thought provoking discussion of gender dysphoria and instead has made all transsexual’s seem bonkers. Poor Holly Willoughby looks like she’s running the gauntlet.

Thoughts?

I think this is painful watching personally.

Completely ignoring the topic, but I love google's choice of ads to go alongside this article... "Dating with Shemales : www.ladyboykisses.com". Good old google!
  • I agree, I did acutally laugh out load when it popped up, meant to get a screen grab and put it up but forget....and I was lazy

Tee bee haytch, James Harries was a little bonkers in the first place, so not surprising that as Lauren she's coming across as slightly odd. It's all too easy to portray transsexuals as confused and out-of-place... which I supposed stems from them not feeling in-place to start with, hence the desire to change their sex. Then we get into the whole sex/gender thing, which is really not appropriate in a comments thread. Hopefully Lauren is now happier than she was.
  • I didn't think she came across too badly, the bit about having a problem with the term 'trans person' was a bit intense but I thought it was lovely that she felt passionate and Phillip handled the whole situation in a brilliant way, the ending was beyond odd though.

However I was all confused about why she was brought on as a spokesperson for those of gender confusion as I read an interview with her not that long ago where she talked about one of the main reasons she wanted to go through with the surgery was that she craved the media attention she would get and regretted having everything chopped and tucked.
