Top 5 Computer Games that became Televsion Programmes

Two nights ago a wonderful friend of mine whipped out a DVD case with Link on the front “What is that I asked?” the response to this was “The Legend Of Zelda series” to which the only response is “Well excuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess.” And so it was sparked, my hunt around the t’interclick to hunt out any of those wonderful computer games from my childhood that were made into less wonderful television series. Not all of these are good, some of them are infact dire but they all made me go “oh my god I remember that!”

First up is Donkey Kong:

Dazzle at the awesome CGI, be amazed by Donkey Kongs ever changing accent, is he Jamaican or is a spoilt teenager in the same vain as dear old Link. But you can see where Rare got a number of ideas for the Nintendo 64 version of the Donkey Kong series, the instruments for example. I also remember a too bright orange for words monkey appearing at some point who looked more than a little like Lanky.

Horrah to Donkey Kong and hoorah to Kranky being…well….kranky. Watching this made me miss Donkey Kong country. You can watch the rest of the series if you click here.

Next to make your day slightly better is Super Mario World:

So wrong in so many ways. You are only lucky that I didn’t inflict the voice of mutant Yoshi on you, its fair to say he suffers from the same voice school of ‘Annoying Teenager’ as Link and Donkey Kong, but I loved it and I must admit to singing along ‘Super Mario World its a blast from de past’ whilst my insides screamed ‘NO ITS NOT! Mario did not travel in time. On the SNES they were dragons!’ grrrrr. I would have complained about how Bowser looked but then I saw this

King Koopas Kool Kartoon

and thought, meh hes not too bad compared to that and don’t even get me started on the film.

I know I have focused alot on the dear ninty so far so for 3rd place in this list of no particular order is

Drum roll please

Earthworm Jim

Easrthworm Jim was the height of cool back in the day, the slightly dirty animation (and jokes) the completely off beat humour still makes me chortle to this day, I hope the rumours are true that Mr Jim will be back with us soon.

And now for the grand finally. And let me tell you this was a toss up on one hand I had the monster of all games to cartoon and on the other I had something that made me squeel with delight. Here it is folks, the moment you have all be waiting for…..

The winner (ish) is

CAPTAIN N

Captain N tried to bring all computer games together in one happy place, but did so by creating god awful representations of loved characters (did you recognise Megaman in that trailer?) and threw them all together in the hopes that no one would notice. Also the green CGI man thing that jumps out of the screen used to give me nightmare.

I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane, if you click here you will be taken to another one I had a few months back involving childrens fantasy series. I just wish I had had time to mention so many others such as Sonic Underground, or had a look at Pokemon but sadly there are only a few hours in the day and Kirby is about to be on POP.
