My morbid fascination with Maddy

Here in the UK for the last year and a bit many column inches have been given over to the disappearance of a little girl named Madeleine McCann who went ‘missing’ whilst on holiday with her parents. Right from the start I want to point out that I think that this is tragic, no matter what theories there are about her parents killing Maddy, at the heart of it all a little girl has been taken/killed and that is sad.

However hallelujah it should all be coming to an end in the very near future as the BBC have said that the Portuguese police are closing the case. This means that I will never have to see Gerry or Kate McCann ever again as apparently there is not enough evidence to arrest anyone. However this makes me wonder what they will do with their time. Gerry is back to work in the hospital which is good, but poor Kate, you can tell that she has loved living of the generous donations from the public and the highlight of her week is when she gets to go on TV and show off her bran new haircut. There is only one word to describe her, and that is media whore. She even managed to latch herself onto the Shannon case (also known as the fight child in a bed) and the flurry of people that have suddenly been found in peoples basements.

The whole case makes me feel sick mainly due to the McCann’s reaction. If they didn’t kill Maddy with their own hands then the amount of media attention they courted instantly made Maddy hot property for whoever did take her, making it more likely that she was then killed and dumped. The there is the Madeleine fund which raised over a million pounds so that Gerry and Kate could stay in Portugal and continue the hunt for Maddy, I honestly can’t imagine them going door to door or travelling the countryside on this hunt. Then there are their other two children which were left with relatives so as far as media reports go (which may not be true) they went for weeks without seeing their parents. And although McCann’s were receiving public donations they were not willing to share with other parents whose children  had gone missing, instead just using other missing children to boost their own public image.

No one deserves to lose a child and I really hope I haven’t come across as heartless. But I would place the McCann’s at the same level of fame as Rebecca Loos who only gain fame from scandal, and I won’t be overly surprised if they end up the next celebrity big brother house.

One Response to My morbid fascination with Maddy

Your not in anyway heartless Blackett, whilst it is the worst thing in the world to lose a child and we all deal with grief in our own way I think the McCann’s are disgusting.

Whilst it is every bit important to try and find your missing child one would assume that you’d be equally worried about the children you had left, were I in the McCann’s position I would not have let my remaining children out of my sight.

You are absolutly right when you call them media whore’s, though I don’t think that term is cheap enough. They seem to be so blase about their remaining children and more concerned with being celebrities. They are the kind of parents that use their children for what they can give them! If they had been more concerned for their welfare they wouldn’t have left their children alone in the first place.

I know I sound callous and possibly cruel and I don’t feel anyone deserves such a loss but their behaviour is disgusting. A child is the most prescious gift in the world!
